Due to the fact that the Halloween movies’ licensing rights have been strewn across different studios and production companies, the franchise has never gotten a complete collection release. That’s all about to change this fall when the Horror Heroes over at Scream Factory team up with Anchor Bay Entertainment to compile and release Halloween – The Complete Collection blu-ray box set.
Plans are for the box set to include every single Halloween film from the original franchise, as well as both Rob Zombie reboot movies. That’s ten movies. But that’s not all; a deluxe version of the set will include the storied producers cut of the series’ sixth film, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (which has never been released, and only sporadically exhibited), as well as the network TV versions of the first two films and the unrated versions of both Rob Zombie movies. And, because it’s Scream Factory, there should be plenty of special features and extra content. This is the box set that Halloween fans have been waiting for.
The box is slated for release on September 23rd, just in time for Halloween (and my birthday…hint hint).
The press release is here for those who want to read it for themselves:
“BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Last year, the horror classic Halloween celebrated 35 years of terror for those willing to partake in its vision of unrelenting horror. But that was only the beginning of the celebration. What producers Moustapha Akkad, Debra Hill and Irwin Yablans, writer/director John Carpenter and stars Jamie Lee Curtis & Donald Pleasence started in 1978 has transformed into one of the most durable, iconic – and copiously studied — horror film franchises ever created. Before Jason, before Freddy, and before Jigsaw, there was…Michael. Over the years, audiences have lived and relived the terrors of Michael Myers through ten feature films, as well as various re-edits and alternate versions. Yet to date, the complete saga of Michael Myers could only be told in pieces, in individual DVD and Blu-ray™ releases, with the rights spread across multiple home entertainment studios.
Until now…
