Film Review
Production
Paul Blart: Mall Cop is not terrible, but not great either. You will laugh at times, some brought on by the actual comedy and others for its failure. It does try to up the “cool” factor by having the bad guys lovers of extreme sports; everyone grab your BMX bike and skateboard and let’s take over the mall. Paul Blart: Mall Cop just does not achieve the laugh out loud comedy you may desire, leaving it merely a movie you will not hate, but one you will more than likely never want to watch again.
Score and Soundtrack
Paul Blart: Mall Cop is full of fun and uplifting songs. If you have a penchant for 80s music it will not fail to please as they are mixed throughout.
Comedy Factor
What is funny about Paul Blart: Mall Cop? The physical comedy. The majority of Paul Blart: Mall Cop relies on the physical comedy and the action sequences to make it entertaining. There are few, if really any, funny jokes or lines. The real humor comes from the escapades of Paul Blart (Kevin James), as he attempts to take down the thieves who have invaded mall (a fact he makes ever so clear throughout). He does a great job with the physicality of the role and you will laugh at his mishaps, and be impressed by his Segway skills. If there was only one reason to see the film it is for the laugh you will get when he ends up in the kid’s ball playground. Priceless.
