The biggest news for horror fans to come out of San Diego Comic-Con is the announcement of six new titles that will be given the Scream Factory treatment, with beautiful new transfers and loads of special features, for release on Blu-ray and DVD. Scream Factory, the retro horror film imprint of Shout Factory Home Video, has been building an impressive catalog of classic films that includes famous horror films such as Halloween II, Halloween III, The Fog, They Live, and Terror Train. Next up for release is John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, Eve of Destruction featuring Gregory Hines, Saturn 3 with Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett, Sam Raimi’s Darkman, and the 1982 version of Cat People starring Nastassja Kinski. However, the real crown jewel of Scream Factory’s new release schedule is a bona-fide bucket list title – Clive Barker’s Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut.
Nightbreed has long been a cult favorite, but the version of the film that hit screens in 1990 is not one with which Barker has ever been truly happy. His original cut of the film ran about 45 minutes longer (clocking in at about two and a half hours) and stayed much closer to the source material, his novella ‘Cabal.’ For the first time, fans will be able to see “The Cabal Cut” in glorious Blu-ray high-definition, complete with the film’s original ending.
