Liam Neeson has become quite a conundrum in the past five years or so. An actor who could be found playing the less-than stunt-prone character finds himself in his golden years a bona-fide action hero, all beginning with Taken in 2008. Out of nowhere Neeson was suddenly shooting up bad guys, performing death defying stunts and making history with lines such as “I will find you, and I will kill you.” Moviegoers do not seem to be complaining over Neeson’s change in career tempo. He has always been a great actor, as can be seen in Kinsey (2004) and Gangs of New York, or the lesser known Schindler’s List (1993)–I kid of course. When you look back at Liam Neeson’s resume there are quite a few action-type roles he has played–and he was of course in The Phantom Menace as well as Batman Begins but as a much more gentler, philosophical fighter–it was not until Taken that anyone actually noticed this gentlemen Bond could carry an action-movie all on his own.

In 2012 alone Liam Neeson has four action genre films releasing, two of which will find him at the center of the carnage. The first is The Grey, hitting theatres on January 27, 2012. In The Grey Neeson is a pensive man on the brink of ending his life over a broken heart. When his plane crash lands in the Alaskan wilderness and he and his crew of men are left to defend themselves against a pack of wolves he remains calm, while letting his animal side release in order to protect himself and the others. The Grey is not a whole-hearted action piece, as much of the plot is about trying to outsmart the wolves instead of fighting them head-on, but Neeson still holds the ranks as an action-hero in the film when he takes on the Alpha role early on. His Alpha is not someone you want to mess with, and anyone who has doubted Neeson’s ability to be the serious actor, the action star, and the spewer of one-liners will have to quiet themselves due to The Grey. He achieves all three, and looks very good doing it, even covered in icy snow.
