Based on this brief outline of the show it harks memories of Psycho IV – The Beginning where viewers did indeed get a glimpse into the relationship between Norman and his mother, her lover included. That film was a train wreck of epic proportions and is commonly forgotten when conversations of Norman Bates enter film-circles. No one needs to remember how she locked him in a closet or perpetuated his cross-dressing; as well as the nods towards incest. Alas, the script for the TV show has been written by Anthony Cipriano, his writing credits will not include anything you are aware of or need be aware.
Should the show make it into Primetime it will no doubt draw the viewers in, if only so they may finally get the answer to the question that has been boggling our minds for over 50 years, “What happened to Norman Bates’ prom date?” Hitchcock went to his grave with this valuable information, perhaps the folks over at A&E have uncovered long lost notes of the master of suspense–he did love to keep notes on everything.
