IMDb Freedive Offers Free Streaming of Full-Length Movies and TV Shows
Because everyone loves streaming movies for free, and they're already on IMDb every day.
Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, Amazon Prime Video, and other niche streaming services aren’t enough, nor is the upcoming Apple streaming service or AT&T and Time Warner’s option, IMDb has to join the streaming game, too. IMDb’s Freedive will not be a subscription model; instead, it’s a free streaming video channel that’s ad-supported like YouTube. It offers full-length movies and TV shows to stream at your leisure on IMDb’s website with your computer and on all Amazon Fire TV devices.
Amazon owns IMDb, so it’s not shocking that it would use the powerhouse movie database website as a platform for streaming movies and television — the traffic is already there. Eventually, the IMDb app will offer Freedive streaming capabilities of movies and television shows.
As of now, IMDb Freedive’s free streaming service is available in the United States only.
IMDb Freedive's Streaming Content Library
Current movies and television shows available to stream on IMDb Freedive include “Fringe,” “Heroes,” “Without a Trace,” “The Bachelor,” Foxcatcher, Memento, Monster, Run Lola Run, The Illusionist, True Romance, and The Last Samurai. You can also watch IMDb original video series, like “The IMDb Show” and “Casting Calls.” And to reiterate, Freedive is a free streaming service, but expect ads while watching programs.
More content will be added to Freedive on a routine basis.
“Customers already rely on IMDb to discover movies and TV shows and decide what to watch,” said Col Needham, Founder and CEO of IMDb. “With the launch of IMDb Freedive, they can now also watch full-length movies and TV shows on IMDb and all Amazon Fire TV devices for free. We will continue to enhance IMDb Freedive based on customer feedback and will soon make it available more widely, including on IMDb’s leading mobile apps.”
If you want to get interactive while watching a movie or TV show on Freedive, you can take advantage of X-Ray, which will give you information from IMDb’s database about cast, crew, trivia, soundtracks, and more depending on what you’re watching and what information is available.
