The Tom Hanks Starring Mr. Rogers Movie Finally Has A Title
After a very long wait, the Tom Hanks Mr. Rogers semi-biopic finally has a title: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Sony Pictures announced the title to the Marielle Heller directed film that Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harvester wrote on December 27 and the movie’s IMDB page has been updated.
Tom Hanks’ turn as Mr. Rogers comes after the release of the highly acclaimed documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? that explored the life and impact Mr. Rogers and his show “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” had on generations, and its lasting legacy. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will take a different approach to Mr. Rogers.
The article “Can You Say…Hero?” by Tom Junod inspired A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’s screenplay. It tells the story of a cynical journalist who is tasked with writing a profile piece on Fred Rogers and, in doing so, finds his life changed for the better. Matthew Rhys (The Post, “The Americans”) portrays the movie’s version of Junod in the character Lloyd Vogel.
The first photo of Tom Hanks in character as Mr. Rogers doesn’t show an uncanny resemblance to the icon, but the red sweater says it all.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood also features Enrico Colantoni, Wendy Makkena, Chris Cooper, Sakina Jaffrey, and Tammy Blanchard.
