Jurassic World has set a new record for biggest global opening in history.
Jurassic World is a movie that features dinosaurs…lots of dinosaurs.
It may not be the best movie for lovers of the original Jurassic Park but no one seems to care—they went to the movies to see dinosaurs come to life, and wreak havoc on man once again. I doubt anyone who kept their expectations light left the theatre unhappy. Even if they did, the amount of money Jurassic World made opening weekend—$511.8 million worldwide!—secures it in movie business history.
As Deadline pointed out, it is “the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500M in one weekend.”
Everyone loves a movie with dinosaurs, and with the amount of money Jurassic World made, you can surely expect a sequel, or three. A point made quite obvious in the film. It’s almost as if the powers that be knew Jurassic World was going to trample the competition all over the world.
Everyone loves a movie featuring dinosaurs, including FilmFracture’s own James Jay Edwards as is shown in his review: ‘Jurassic World’ Is Light On Character, But Heavy On Dinosaur-Munching Fun.
May we all say a small prayer to the movie Gods that the Jurassic World sequels are better than those Jurassic Park was saddled with.
Now, go see Jurassic World again, or for the first time—and be sure to buy something from the concession stand as the theatre owners are not going to see a penny of the millions the movie earns for quite a while.
