Production
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past offers nothing as a whole for the viewer. It is so focused on showing the womanizing ways of the main character that it completely forgets it is supposed to be a romantic comedy. Aside from decent antagonistic banter between Connor (Matthew McConaughey) and Jenny (Jennifer Garner) they barely share any time together that makes you feel these are two people meant to be together. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is regretfully a romance that lacks any real semblance of romance throughout.
Acting
The one character that stands out as the most entertaining of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is Uncle Wayne, played by Michael Douglas. As the ghost of his womanizing former self, he is absolutely delightful, in a very sick and disturbing way. The way he treats women and teaches Connor to treat them will make you cringe at once and laugh out loud the next second. He is the epitome of the creepy older man in the bar and plays the part so well it is frightening. Without him, much of the comedy would be lost in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
Chemistry
It is fairly impossible to gauge the chemistry between the two main characters because they spend so little time together on screen alone in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. They have moments where they throw jabs at each other and it is funny and entertaining but the moments of softness, of connection, just do not exist. They are likable when they are together but not as love interests, they come across more like friends than possible lovers.
